Crime Prevention Resources

Community Education
Crime is everywhere, even in a quiet community like Sugarcreek Township. Recognizing this unfortunate truth is an important first step in crime prevention. Most crime prevention tips involve nothing more than common sense and active awareness. The ultimate goal of crime prevention is to reduce the risk of being a victim. In order to accomplish this effectively, it is important to remove opportunities for a criminal to take advantage of you or your property. You are attempting to prevent either victimization or criminalization by presenting an unattractive target to the criminal.

Sugarcreek Township takes a proactive approach to crime prevention by working closely with the community to help prevent and deter crime. The Sugarcreek Township Police Department is committed to ensuring a safe and secure community and we can best do that with your cooperation and assistance.

Sugarcreek Township offers a number of crime prevention programs.

Neighborhood Watch
Our police officers will train residents in home security techniques, observation skills, and crime reporting. Residents will also learn about the types of crimes that affect their neighborhoods and how to best guard against them. For information about starting a Neighborhood Watch program in your neighborhood, contact Linda Lotspaih by e-mail or by calling (937) 848-3479.

Vacation House Check
The Sugarcreek Township Police Department offers a free Vacation House Check program to all Sugarcreek Township residents. If you are leaving town for a weekend or an extended period of time, the Vacation House Check program is a crime prevention tool that can be useful in protecting your home and property while you are away. To arrange for a vacation house check please contact the Sugarcreek Township Police Department call them at (937) 848-6161.

NIXLE Notification System
In a coordinated effort to provide non-emergency and informational notifications to the public, the Sugarcreek Township Police Department has partnered with the Greene County Sheriff's Department and other police agencies in Greene County in the use of the NIXLE alert system. Criminal activity does not recognize geographical boundaries and this system will provide local and cross-jurisdictional alerts of special interest.

The NIXLE notification system is a supplement to the hyper-reach notification system. NIXLE sends an email or text message while hyper-reach utilizes the telephone. NIXLE will be used to notify participants of crime trends and events that could affect local residents. As with hyper-reach, subscription to NIXLE is voluntary and there is no cost. The Sugarcreek Township Police Department encourages all residents to register to receive both hyper-reach and NIXLE notifications.

Note: Google has reconfigured mapping, resulting in mapping errors being received by some residents while registering for NIXLE. If you receive a mapping error message, list the closest intersection to your home instead of your home address. This should eliminate the mapping error and allow you to complete registration.
