The Sugarcreek Township Fire Department is known as one of the fastest growing and most aggressive fire departments in the area. The fire department was developed in 1988 after Sugarcreek Township and the City of Bellbrook agreed to become separate entities. Since that time, both the fire department and the township have grown immensely. The Sugarcreek Township Fire Department operates with full-time (career), part-time and volunteer personnel. Citizens that reside in and visit our township can rest assured they are protected with state of the art equipment and caring professional personnel from our fire department. The Sugarcreek Township Fire Department provides both fire protection and EMS (emergency medical services), public education classes such as CPR (cardio pulmonary resucitation), fire prevention programs to the public, and an explorer program for children ages 13-21 who have an interest in serving in the fire/ems field. The fire department also participates in numerous community based functions.
On May 10, 1803 the first delineated lines were recorded for Sugarcreek Township. In the 1800's Sugarcreek Township was a major producer of maple sugar and maple molasses. Each year, the Sugar Maple Festival is held commemorating this once thriving industry. In addition to tapping maple trees, Sugarcreek Township was a major center for pork packing, mills and hedge fencing. Today, agriculture continues and is maintained as part of the heritage in this area.
Because of the overall appeal and continued availability of land for development, the population of the township has increased dramatically. Sugarcreek Township is expected to continue as one of the major growth areas in Greene County. As of the 2000 census count, Sugarcreek Township was home to 6,600 residents.
In addition to natural beauty, Sugarcreek Township has several recreational areas. Sugar Valley Country Club boasts a challenging 18 hole golf course and beautiful clubhouse. Five Season Country Club offers many activities such as indoor and outdoor swimming pools, indoor and outdoor raquet ball and tennis courts, a fine dining restaurant and baquet/reception facilities. The Little Miami River provides a challenge and beauty to many canoeists. The Sugarcreek Township Reserve offers over 15 miles of hiking and horse back riding trails. Parks located in the township offer developed play areas, sports, fields, picnic areas, fishing and biking.
The commercial corridor on Wilmington Pike offers a variey of shopping, hotel and dining experiences. With fast and convenient access to Interstate 675, the area offers transportation advantages making it prime location for potential development. | |
