CodeRED

Sugarcreek Township has instituted the CodeRED Emergency Notification System
- an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows us to telephone all or targeted areas of the Township in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action (such as a boil-water notice, missing child or an evacuation notice). The system is capable of dialing 60,000 phone numbers per hour. It then delivers our recorded message to a live person or an answering machine, making three attempts to connect to any number. Such systems are only as good as the telephone database supporting them. If your phone number is not in the database, you will not be called. To ensure no one is omitted, Sugarcreek Township urges all individuals and businesses to register. Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no p.o. boxes), city, state, zip code, primary phone number, and additional phone numbers (optional). No one should automatically assume his or her phone number is included in the system. All businesses should register, as well as individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, those who have changed their phone number or address within the last year, and those who use a cell phone as their primary home phone.

The CodeRED system is a geographical based notification system, which means street addresses are needed to select which phone numbers will receive emergency notification calls in a given situation. The system works fine for cell phones too, but we have to have a street address tied to the cell phone number. People who have recently moved but kept the same listed or unlisted phone number also need to change their address in the database. CodeRED gives those who want to receive emergency notifications by phone an easy and secure method for doing so. THIS SYSTEM WILL ONLY BE USED FOR EMERGENCY PURPOSES.

Examples of times when the CodeRED system could be utilized:

  • Utility outage
  • Drinking water contamination
  • Evacuation notice & route
  • Missing person
  • Fires or Floods
  • Bomb threat
  • Hostage situation
  • Chemical spill or Gas leak
  • Other emergency incidents where rapid and accurate notification is essential for life safety

 NIXLE

NIXLE Notification System - In a coordinated effort to provide non-emergency and informational notifications to the public, the Sugarcreek Township Police Department has partnered with the Greene County Sheriff and other police agencies in Greene County in the use of the NIXLE alert system. Criminal activity does not recognize geographical boundaries and this system will provide local and cross jurisdictional alerts of special interest.

The NIXLE notification system is a supplement to the CODE RED notification system. NIXLE sends an email or text message while CODE RED utilizes the telephone. NIXLE will be used to notify participants of crime trends and events that could affect local residents. As with CODE RED, subscription to NIXLE is voluntary and there is no cost.

The Sugarcreek Township Police Department encourages all residents to register to receive both CODE RED and NIXLE notification.

*Please note that Google has reconfigured mapping, resulting in mapping errors being received by some residents while registering for NIXLE. If you receive a mapping error message, list the closest intersection to your home instead of your home address. This should eliminate the mapping error and allow you to complete registration.
